Our story begins on the Planet of Ree

In a big green valley close to the sea.

The valley is where all the Woodrats live now,

Where they built their town, a big one, and how!

At first you can't see it, not on the ground,

It's up in the trees if you look around.

Wizard Dundee is working away,

Teaching the Woodrats some classes today.

His assistant, Jeeter is helping him out,

Busily moving some things about.

"Now, class," said Dundee, "we are going to

Make and effort to educate you

"On more about this Planet of Ree,

The planet on which you happen to be."

Jeeter pulled out a Planet Ree chart.

Dundee pointed his pointer to Ree's northern part.

"Today we'll talk about Ree's farthest reaches

Where there's snow on the mountains and ice on the beaches.

"An old part of Ree," Dundee said with a sigh,

"Where the Trees are so old they're a thousand feet high."

"Sounds too cold for BeeBees!" one BeeBee said.

"True," said Dundee.  "Trees get help instead

"From a strange bunch of critters that happen to be

Called the Snow Pookas of Northern Ree."
