This is a close up of one of the leaves. Yes, they are made on a sewing machine.  I went out in my backyard and found the most beautiful of all the leaves on the ground and used them as patterns. Each of my leaves is made from tiny bits of fabric and yarns which are stitched with metallic thread. Many, many, many hours of stitching. I used satin stitching to create the veins and stitched over wire to give the leaf some shape.
