Picture This! A Young People's Photography Exhibit
Professional photographer/writer David Linnig, presents awards to ALL his photography students ages 10-14 in the program PICTURE THIS! at a special reception on July 26, from 6-8 p.m. The exhibit runs through August 4 at How Original! An Art Gallery in Laguna Beach.
Students
from South Coast YMCA-Don Juan Avila Middle School after-school program, created
their art early this summer. “It’s so great to see what youngsters can
produce with a little direction and encouragement,” said Linnig, who donated
his teaching services. Linnig taught the students basic compositional ideas and
concepts to include in their photographs. Then with disposable cameras, new
skills and lots of enthusiasm the budding artists rushed out to shoot.
The resulting artwork was prepared for the exhibition by members of Linnig’s photographic community – Photo Center Inc., Charles Benes Photography, Framing Artistry, How Original! and others. Contributions included enlargements, matting, framing, and exhibition of one image for each student.
Linnig said, “I look forward to the opening. Seeing the kids’ reaction to their work shown in a Laguna Beach art gallery and sharing the gems they created with their proud parents will be rewarding.”
Linnig, a 25-year resident of Orange County, started using a camera at age 11 and for nearly 50 years has honed his keen eye for the play of light and shadow. His work may be viewed at the Laguna Beach Art-A-Fair Festival, How Original! in Laguna Beach, and Art Angles in Orange, California. Linnig also teaches photography workshops in Laguna Beach and Los Altos, California.
