Call
for Entries - “In the Toilet”
An
exhibition of function meets art: June 1, 2002
|
The deadline for this exhibition has passed. |
Looking for artists to paint on a toilet. Yes, you read this right!
Background:
This
exhibit was conceived as I was staring at my toilet.
It was sitting on the front porch. Why
the front porch you ask? Well, it
was leaking, in fact it leaked all over the floor.
So, out came the toilet. The
most convenient place to put it was the front porch.
As I stared at the poor forlorn object, I thought why are they not made
more beautiful? They are made of
china after all and could be painted just like a beautiful vase.
Guidelines:
Submit
samples of your work so we can get an idea of your style.
From these submissions, we will choose approximately 5 artists.
These artists will be provided with a “canvas” on which to paint.
Due to the nature of the “canvas,” we will only accept artists
willing to drive to Laguna Beach, California to both pick up and return the
artwork.
(Click here if you live too far away, but still
want to participate.) Each artist will receive a
$25 gift certificate to purchase ceramic paint that does not need to go through
the firing process. Remember, the
piece must still be usable for the originally intended
purpose as a plumbing fixture, so you cannot paint the inside of the
bowl unless the piece is fired.
To be considered, please send the following by February 28, 2002:
1.
Samples of your work, photos please.
Send enough images (but please, no more than 10) so that we can get an idea of
your style.
2.
A description and/or sketch of your
proposed design.
3.
Anything else you want to tell us about
yourself as to why you think we should select you to do this.
4.
An SASE for return of materials
5. A check for $20 made out to How Original!
6. Send to:
